Renovation of the staircase in an apartment building in the center of Prague. The apartment building in the center of Prague underwent a complete renovation, all that remained was to renovate the historic
cast iron railings and granite stairs. The house had 12 apartments with permanent tenants who did not wish to be disturbed, due to the new stucco and painting it was necessary to minimize the pollution of the surroundings and install industrial ventilation. The granite and sandstone staircases on the top floor were dirty from long-term use, we have experience in cleaning them using a pulse laser and in this case there were no complications either.
The cast iron railing had a surface finish typical of such houses – multiple coats of white and cream paint with all details cast in. First, it was necessary to remove thick layers of paint mechanically, followed by detailed cleaning with a powerful pulse laser. After several test samples, the client chose to apply dark blacksmith paint, with an emphasis on preserving the surface typical of cast iron elements. The small leaves of the castings were made in gold color according to the original. Fortunately, the beech handrails were in good condition, after manual sanding they were left in a light shade and provided with only a few layers of matte polyurethane parquet varnish.
